Research on first impressions found people relatively accurate at judging a variety traits such as perceived sexual orientation income, but there is paucity research investigates whether also wealth or class. We find participants meaning not Additionally, perceivers categorize more accurately than sheer chance, minimal cues, particularly inaccurate when categorizing high-income high-wealth Black Latinx subjects.

Using police officers and undergraduates as participants, the authors investigated the influence of stereotypic associations on visual processing in 5 studies. Study 1 demonstrates that Black faces influence participants' ability to spontaneously detect degraded images of crime-relevant objects. Conversely, Studies 2-4 demonstrate that activating abstract concepts (i.e., crime and basketball) i...
متن کاملFace Adaptation Depends on Seeing the Face
Retinal input that is suppressed from visual awareness can nevertheless produce measurable aftereffects, revealing neural processes that do not directly result in a conscious percept. We here report that the face identity-specific aftereffect requires a visible face; it is effectively cancelled by binocular suppression or by inattentional blindness of the inducing face. Conversely, the same sup...

The other-race effect (or own-race bias or cross-racial identification effect) refers to the finding that recognition memory tends to be better for faces of members of subjects' own race than for faces of members of other races. The current study was designed to test the hypothesis that perceptual skills specific to identifying faces of particular racial groups contribute to this effect. On eac...
متن کاملSeeing Race: N170 Responses to Race and Their Relation to Automatic Racial Attitudes and Controlled Processing
We examined the relation between neural activity reflecting early face perception processes and automatic and controlled responses to race. Participants completed a sequential evaluative priming task, in which two-tone images of Black faces, White faces, and cars appeared as primes, followed by target words categorized as pleasant or unpleasant, while encephalography was recorded. Half of these...
